Thousands of Children Endure Long Hospitalizations Each Year
As you read this, more than 30,000 American families and children living with cancer, cystic fibrosis and other serious illnesses, are enduring the turmoil of an extended hospital stay.
While in the hospital, where the focus is understandably on defeating or managing their illness, patients often lag academically, and time away from friends and school can lead to emotional isolation at a time when the bonds of friendship are critical.
Limited STEM Opportunities
Hospitals strive to provide welcoming environments and as many “normal” experiences as possible for patients and their families. They work hard to keep the children from falling behind; but high-quality, engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) activities available in many schools today are non-existent.
But that’s about to change.
MAKERplay employs an innovative combination of proven approaches to STEM education and cutting-edge technology to combat the academic and emotional impact of extended hospitalization on pediatric patients. Learn more about the program.
