Patients get to keep these fun, single use projects that introduce them to electronics, computer aided vector design, and engineering.
Each kit takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete and includes directions for completing the activity as well as instructions for sharing pictures and videos of their work with the MAKERplay online community. Once the starter activity has been completed, participants can then access related intermediate level activities. All materials are available in English and Spanish.
The patent-pending MAKERplay online community is a secure, web based application connecting patients across participating hospitals.
Allowing them to collaborate on STEM themed activities, participants can compete in monthly challenges and share what they have accomplished with their MAKERplay activity kits.
These mobile maker studios are an awesome upgrade to the familiar library cart! Each creation station includes a laptop computer, iPad, 3D printer and vinyl cutter.
In addition, manipulatives such as littleBits, SparkFun kits, and Snap Circuits engage patients in creative, hands-on exploration of STEM concepts. An individual hospital may have one or more carts that visit patient rooms for multiple days.
